Snowmass Village's Off-Season Doesn't End on Opening Day

"We're staying in Snowmass! Heather's reopens at Stonebridge Inn on December 10, 2026."

Heather's posted that line ahead of closing its summer spot at Viewline Resort on Oct. 5. The date matters more than the move. Aspen Snowmass is scheduled to open Snowmass on Nov. 26, and that's usually treated as the day the village switches back on. The fall 2026 closure schedule says otherwise. The village shuts down in waves through October and hits its quietest point in the first weeks of November. It reopens in waves that run two weeks past the first chairlift. Through all of it, one building in the village barely changes its hours.

The order things go dark

GoSnowmass published its fall 2026 list of seasonal closures and reopenings in mid-September. It notes that many businesses close Mondays and Tuesdays in the off-season and that hours can shift as reopening dates approach, so it's worth calling ahead. Taken in date order, the list shows a slow drain:

  1. Sept. 27. The Stew Pot, New Belgium Ranger Station, Crepe Therapy Cafe and Sunglass Panache close.
  2. Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Slope & Hatch at The Collective, JUS Snowmass, Fuel Cafe, Grub Thai, Venga Venga, Aurum Food & Wine, Montevino, Snowmass Sports, Sundae Ice Cream, Pinecreek Cookhouse and the Base Village Four Mountain Sports shops all close.
  3. Oct. 5 to Oct. 13. Heather's leaves Viewline, then Kenichi, both Four Mountain Sports locations on the Mall and Snowmass Trading Company close.
  4. Oct. 18 to Oct. 25. The Lounge at the Limelight, Rock Island Oyster Bar & Grill, Gorsuch Ski Cafe and the Après Deck, formerly Stark's Alpine Grill at Viewline, close.
  5. Nov. 1. Café V, Lift Line and Toro at the Viceroy close.

The Viceroy closes late and comes back early, with a break of just 22 days between Nov. 1 and Nov. 23. Pinecreek Cookhouse is the opposite case. It closed Oct. 4 and is listed to reopen Dec. 10, a break of more than nine weeks.

Early November is the quietest point

Once the Viceroy outlets close on Nov. 1, every Base Village restaurant on the list is closed. Aurum, Café V, Crepe Therapy, JUS, Kenichi, Lift Line, The Lounge, Montevino, Slope & Hatch, Sundae and Toro all show closing dates on or before that day, and none of them reopens before mid-November. The Collective's Game Lounge and Selfie Den are closed from Sept. 28 through Nov. 26 as well. In Base Village retail, Eye Pieces of Snowmass is marked open all season with possibly reduced hours, and TAC Fitness at One Snowmass East stays open. Alux Spalon takes a one-week break from Nov. 2 to Nov. 9.

The Mall has more open, though not much. Zane's Tavern is one of the Mall restaurants marked open through the fall season. It's a sports bar on the Mall's upper level at 10 Village Square, and its site lists hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Several Mall entries on the list have no dates at all, which is one more reason to call before heading over. Daly Bottle & Grain Fine Food, Guapodog, Challenge Aspen and Christy Sports stay open, with Christy Sports on reduced hours. Daly Bottle Shop lists 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It's connected to Grain Fine Food, a specialty food shop that puts together gift baskets and delivers. Guapodog is an independently owned pet supply store that does custom orders and local delivery.

Snowmass Center keeps its normal hours

Snowmass Center is the one part of the village where the fall list shows no closures at all. Every Snowmass Center entry, both retail and restaurants, is open all season:

  • Clark's Market at 16 Kearns Road lists 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with a deli, hot food, bakery items, and pickup and delivery.
  • The Daly Diner in Suite 103 serves breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. and lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Its own site notes that off-season hours may vary.
  • Taster's is open all season except Thanksgiving Day.
  • Sundance Liquor & Gifts, next to Clark's, lists 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and delivers.
  • Ajax Supply carries hardware, tools, fasteners and paint.
  • The Snowmass Dispensary is also open all season.

Taken together, that's groceries, a diner, a pizza place, a liquor store and a hardware store, all running on regular hours under one roof. From early October to late November, an ordinary weekday in Snowmass Village runs through this building.

The reopening starts before the lifts and ends after them

The reopening is staggered too, and it's longer than most people expect. Here's how the fall list lays it out, with the mountain dates added:

Date What comes back
Mid-November Rock Island Oyster Bar & Grill, JUS Snowmass
Nov. 20 Kenichi, Grub Thai, Smash & Dash Burger
Nov. 21 Gorsuch Ski Cafe
Nov. 23 Café V, Lift Line and Toro at the Viceroy; Après Deck; One Vibe; Snowmass Trading Company
Nov. 25 The Lounge at the Limelight, Four Mountain Sports on the Mall
Nov. 26 Snowmass ski area opens; The Stew Pot, New Belgium Ranger Station, Aurum, Crepe Therapy, Snowmass Sports
Nov. 27 Venga Venga, Sunglass Panache
Dec. 1 The Edge at Timberline
Dec. 7 Ro + Fern
Dec. 10 Pinecreek Cookhouse; Heather's at Stonebridge Inn; Wintersköl begins

About a dozen restaurants and shops are back before the lifts start turning. Another handful returns over the two weeks after opening day, and several of the latest arrivals are tied to lodging projects. The Edge belongs to the Timberline, which has completed the final stage of a $25 million, multi-year renovation for this ski season. That work covers exterior buildings, siding, common areas, infrastructure and guest amenities.

Why Dec. 10 is the real end

Three things land on Dec. 10. Pinecreek Cookhouse reopens. Heather's comes back at the Stonebridge Inn. And Wintersköl opens its 75th annual edition, which runs Dec. 10 to 13. The festival includes a holiday market in Snowmass Village, and this year adds a drone show over Aspen Mountain to mark Wintersköl's 75th, Aspen Snowmass' 80th and Colorado's 150th.

Heather's move explains why the date falls where it does. The Aspen Times reported in June that Heather's ran a summer pop-up at Viewline while the Stonebridge Inn was being renovated, with plans to return in December. The Stonebridge opened shortly after Snowmass welcomed its first guests in 1967. Its 93 rooms, managed by CoralTree Hospitality, reopen this December after a $15.7 million top-to-bottom renovation. In other words, the restaurant's reopening is set by the hotel's.

Up on the mountain, the rebuilt Ullrhof is scheduled to reopen for the 2026/27 season. Construction started in summer 2025. Aspen Snowmass describes the new building as its first fully electric restaurant, with seating for more than 600. The Collective returns with new programming this winter, including Collective Conversations, Community Lunch & Learn Workshops and a Sunday Social Club. Toddler Time, free in the Game Lounge for families with kids under 5, is back on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.

Getting around until then

Road work adds to the off-season this fall. A Town of Snowmass Village notice dated Sept. 9 said Owl Creek Road is closed to through traffic between Brush Creek Road and Chapel Curve until about Oct. 19, with Highline Road as the detour. The roundabout project was scheduled to finish by Nov. 15. Both dates were estimates when they were posted, so check the town's road updates before counting on them.

RFTA's fall schedule for Snowmass runs Sept. 21 through Nov. 22. The SM route between Snowmass and Aspen is free. Heading downvalley means transferring at Brush Creek Park & Ride and paying a fare. The fall schedule ends a few days before Snowmass opens, as the reopening table above starts filling in.

For anyone counting down, the dates to put on the calendar are mid-November, when Rock Island and JUS are listed to return, Nov. 20 for Kenichi, Grub Thai and Smash & Dash, Nov. 26 for the lifts, and Dec. 10, when the Stonebridge, Pinecreek and Wintersköl bring back the last of the village.

If you own in Snowmass Village and you're thinking about winter occupancy or a seasonal lease, the reopening calendar affects what guests will find open when they arrive. Mary Kate Farrell is happy to walk through how timing like this fits into your plans for the season. Let's Connect.
